Canada Post and Rates

If you're shipping a package from Canada, you may be wondering about the latest Canada Post and rates. The government-run postal service makes changes to its rates annually. These changes are approved by the parliament of Canada and take effect on January 10, 2022. These changes will affect the price you pay for domestic and international mail. Fortunately, Canada Post's rates are often the most cost-effective way to ship a package.

First of all, you'll want to make sure your letter is correctly addressed. Canada Post has different rates for various sizes of letters, depending on the weight. Generally, if a letter weighs over 50 grams, it is not considered a standard letter. Anything over 500 grams is classified as a parcel.

Canada Post has had a troubled history with trade unions. There have been numerous periods when its workers have gone on strike, disrupting mail delivery. Between 1965 and 1997, the postal service experienced 19 strikes. The strikes were largely wildcat and involved the use of strikebreakers. The Canadian Parliament even passed back-to-work legislation in response to the strikes.

You can also get a refund from Canada Post if your parcel is delivered late. However, this is only available to the sender and the recipient must make a claim to receive the refund. This option is not available for packages that arrive late due to customs procedures.
